In 2012 we (my arty friends) realised it was hard for artists to find places to exhibit their crafts when they were relatively unknown and not having money or experience to privately exhibit. Also, and more importantly, people had not seen what amazing handmade crafts were being made or thought galleries were not for them. So we set up Chris’s Art House to show their amazing arts and crafts free of charge.
I also for free provide support to those artists that want to perfect their craft presentation or have lost their mojo and want a helping hand to be creative again. We run the shows as a cost neutral collective and encourage the artists to help each other, such as with the best places to get materials to other outlets to show their work when they feel ready to do so.
We run small workshops throughout the year to engage people in the different crafts out there and have a fun day out with like-minded enthusiasts. This is culminated in our main summer show we run every August for 2 weeks under the great banner of Hampshire Open Studios where we open all three floors of the quirky Art House and garden showing over 50 local artists’ arts and craft. We also have different artists demonstrating their craft in my studio where you can sit with a cuppa and watch them working and ask all those questions you have about their craft. It’s a jolly free day out with free cuppa and cakes to relax with mates or browse for new ideas. Visitors often come more than once because they say there is so much to see and you get image overload!
Our most important aim is not to sell but let visitors see what amazing arts and crafts are being made. We do not sell on line, because seeing and feeling the art and crafts are so important, but I can get any of the artist’s work shown here at your request.
