Karen Cousens

Karen is a primary school teacher based in Southampton and a decoupage artist because it really captures her imagination.

Decoupage originated in France in the 17th century as a means of artistically decorating pieces of furniture with pictures. If it looks as though it is hand painted then the artist has achieved a good finish.

Karen's designs are mostly inspired by nature and her favourite technique is creating a unique collage design with images collected. She decoupages glassware, slate, ceramic, polyresin and wood to create beautiful gifts and accessories for the home; recently she has begun working with clay to add embellishments to some of her pieces. Her bridal hangers have proven very successful and she always feels privileged to be asked to create bespoke accessories for a couple’s special day.

She currently sells her work online on The British Craft House, in shops and markets and now she is excited to be exhibiting at Hampshire Open Studios too. Karen is happy to take commissions - just contact her on 07500558055.
