Nellie's Art by Helen PoldenHelen Polden started Nellie’s Art in 2024. She is a mixed media artist living and working in Romsey, Hampshire.
Helen has fond memories of drawing birds and animals at the kitchen table with her artist Grandmother from a very early age. This love of art and nature has never gone away and she keeps many sketchbooks, which are often used to help create her finished paintings. Exploring colour, light and texture, Helen takes her inspiration from the natural beauty of land and sea, from the Test Valley and the New Forest, to the South Coast and further afield to the Mediterranean. Her technique involves the layering of leftover coloured tissue, patterned wrapping paper and magazine cuttings, creating form and texture. From this she develops an image by applying inks and acrylics to create woodland or coastal scenes in an illustrative style, quite often with the addition of quirky wildlife. Helen studied graphic design, graduating from West Surrey College of Art and Design. Whilst she still calls herself a graphic designer, she enjoys the contrast of producing art in a more free, expressive way. Click here to view her workshop programme |
